What is the best OBDII (OBD2) home use scanner to buy? I need a scanner but I can’t afford the snap-on. What is the best Actron type code reader/scanner?
I’ve had a very positive experience with a test (on a promotional loan) with the Actron CP9180 Scanner. It is very well organized and simple to use and worked fine on both US and European obd1 & 2 systems. It has every feature you will need inside and you don’t have to stray referring to code tables or data on CD-roms.
This made my life slightly easier while it was at me and regretfully when the test period expired, I could not imagine how I could now cope without it. Needless to say I ended buying one a week later. I managed to buy mine at a discounted price from Amazon.com, around 55% of the original price!
Alternatively if you do not want to spend that much you can go for a smaller model scanner (even though I think the price difference isn’t that great – so I would end up with the biggest model; always ONLY buying from Amazon or eBay power sellers for good discounts) or else you can opt to buy a code reader instead. You still can do your repairs with this data, it only makes life more difficult, but the end result is still the same. Both Actron and Innova products have been under my hands and they are both brilliant diagnostic aided tools.
