When using an HHO cell to clean carbon from engine, will this improve my fuel mileage?
I recently built a HHO cell from scratch, through DIY information through online videos and eBooks which could all be downloaded onto my computer.
When I managed to finish my fuel cell project, I hooked it up to my truck for about 45 min, letting the engine run on idle in my driveway.
There was a lot of carbon blackened water coming out of my exhaust and became scared something is wrong with my system.
After deciding to play it safe and unplug it, I drove to work the next day with this truck.
Normally on average my fuel consumption is around 1/4 tank of gas driving to work and back. I nearly managed to double my fuel on the same trip to and from work. I simply could not believe the difference I was experiencing with my engine, it even seemed to run smoother too. At one point I even thought that the fuel gauge float had stuck in the fuel tank and was afraid that my false reading would have me stranded in the middle of the highway without fuel!
Probably this is no coincidence and I now believe the HHO cell system has cleaned the excessive carbon (crap) out of my engine, which was ultimately causing me too much in fuel consumption.
- Anyone experienced this episode before, or am I day-dreaming?
- What are your personal opinions and views on these type of HHO cell systems?

Regarding the excessive black water from your tailpipe, this is quite normal for the first few engine runs (might be hours/ days or even weeks, depending on how carbonized your engine is internally). What is happening here is that the HHO and lean fuel mixture are acting as a hot pressure steam cleaning device and are removing all that accumulated carbon.
Just in case you didn’t know in Japan there are special systems which are hooked up at your auto mechanic to steam clean your engine from the carbon elements. They rely on the same HHO principle!
No drama here than.
You should have a safe system with proper design, including electrical safeties like inline fuses and other mechanical safety devices too. If the design was done by a pro and you stuck to their exact requirements during the whole build you should be safe enough to leave the system permanently ON. This is the only way you will recoup your annual savings on fuel.
The engine will run smoother and cooler too as the main damage and wear is cause by the carbon left by the burned mixture and the fuel itself is abrasive!

I have witnessed many of these constructed cells both by amateurs and so-called professionals and any thing in between. My main concern is when no automotive parts are being used as the environment under the hood can be tough for these domestic plumbing systems. Another concern is when no safety measures are introduced for safety precautions.
Having said that I have seen and also build some quality DIY from online technical courses which are great. I’m not mentioning my work here but am referring to the course details and all the safety measurements introduced as part of the design. I just did what I was told. The results did vary from one product to another but I was impressed by the outcome. I recently found out that nothing is as good as a DRY HHO CELL offered by Punch. 
Simply impressive design and even more impressive is the final outcome. Their drawings are also drawn to scale using CAD software so you can print out the template, cut it out on paper and transfer it to the material itself immediately after.
