Obd1 Scanner Tool

How to install an ODB car diagnostic scanner?

I recently purchased a USB Vag-Com OBD2 OBD1 Scan tool for my 99 Audi a4. I am having problems getting my car to recognize the scanner…does anyone know of any type of software which eliminates this problem? I am desperate to find a solution as quickly as possible as I urgently need to scan my car.

I downloaded ross-tech software, but I believe it will only work with their product.
I am not just trying to scan my codes…It connects to my laptop so I can turn service lights on or off…get a read on check engine light, etc.

I think it takes more than plugging in the scanner into my car and laptop, don’t I need software to work on my car ?

Certified auto scanners will not normally need any other external software unless you want to go with the laptop route. The data will come on the scanner’s screen and will have other functions too, like freeze frame capture as an example. If you are going to incorporate the laptop route the scanner must have that function, both in software and hardware.  So unless the scanner is designed that way you will sure have a hard time. If the scanner is certified to be hooked up it should either have the software with the packaged product, or else have detailed information on its manual on what is required and how to proceed. As you have correctly mentioned most softwares might be dedicated to a particular brand’s product range.
