Trouble: service engine light but can’t get the code
I have a 1995 Oldsmobile Achieva and I was told it has obd1. It has the rectangular connector. When I tried to connect the scanner, it read “please check connection” . I thought nothing of it cos the guy at O’Reily’s said it does that sometimes. I went back home and tried to get the codes with the paper clip method, and I noticed there were only 3 wires in the aldl connector. The guide piece that fits in the plug is on top, now with that in your head, picture that 2 wires are on bottom and 1 is on top in the corner. It’s like it doesn’t have the a&b, only the a connector is what it seems to me. So how do I get the codes out if it?
Have you ever heard or seen this situation where only 3 pins are present?
I don’t know anything about this kind of situation. My best bet is that you go and buy a professional “ACTRON” code reader, it will render the codes and display them in readable text. To save some hard earned bucks I would suggest you buy new from Amazon or eBay where the deals are usually somewhere withen 20-50% discount due to the power-sellers competition.
