Automotive Diagnostic OBD2 Scanner

I just changed my thermostat and my water pump but when I started the engine the light hazard symbol Check Engine came on.

After hooking up my own Obd2 Scan Tool it came up with error code P0118. I checked the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor wire, checked the voltage output reading which was pushing out 5 volts as it should be. Do I still need to change it because of the error code P0118? Is there more than one coolant sensor on a 2001 Grand Cherokee Jeep 4.0L V6?

Does your temperature gauge read correctly, or is it dead? Is it running hot after the repair? You might need to bleed the coolant system. A good indication is if your temperature gauge was working correctly before the repair and now is either dead (remains on cold), or is running on the hot side. This is usually caused because the coolant will contain air bubbles which might be blocking the coolant flow. This might not allow the constant coolant flow which might not reach the sensor unit, or else the same coolant volume is trapped between these air bubbles, within the coolant. Bleeding the coolant system in all bleeding points will normally solve this problem. You should find a bleeder screw on the thermostat housing and you might have an additional bleed screws in the radiator itself and somewhere across the flexible rubber coolant hoses, usually before and after the secondary radiator matrix for the interior heater. Opening these in the correct sequence of the coolant flow from the coolant top-up while pouring the coolant will normally extract the air bubbles. Do not open them all at once. Do them one by one till clear coolant without bubbles comes out and them screw back to the closed position. I sometimes find that doing this with the engine running after filling the new coolant will aid the process of air-bubble extraction. You might have to repeat the process twice on some vehicles. Do this badly and you might end up blowing your head gasket; if the engine is driven in this condition.
