Help with OBD2 Protocol?
Alright different vehicles support different obd2 protocol. Correct? My question is does it matter what obd2 cable you buy as far as if it will support your vehicle or does that rest solely on the type of software you use and whether or not its incorporated in that program? Thanks
OBDII has been used since 1996-1997 on all US made vehicles.
The scan tools used to access the data come with connector cables .
Snap-On scanners use personality keys for different vehicles or even the different computers in one vehicle with just one connector cable.
The older Snap-On MT 2500 had to have an adapter to access the data on CAN OBDII systems
The newer Snap-On Solus scanner has the CAN capability built into the software and does not require an adapter. However it still uses the personality keys.
OTC scanners do not use personality keys.
