1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Rough Idle?


Engine idles very rough, lopes. Black smoke coming from exhaust. Runs fine when you hit gas pedal and rev it up. Attached OBD III Actron Scanner, pulled following codes: P0123 TPS Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit High Input,
P0122 TPS Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input
P0118 Engine Coolant Temp Circuit High Input
Po113 IAT Sensor 1 Circuit High Input
P1478 Manufacturer Control Auxiliary Emissions
I replaced Throttle Position Sensor but problem didn’t go away.

It seems as though you have been driving along the “red lines” of your engine’s tacho. This is shown by the black smoke coming from your exhaust. That black smoke is probably due to the burning of oil in the combustion process and is probably giving the black smoke. Engine might also be running rich on fuel which is a a symptom of black smoke too What you should do to fix this is have a compression test to check piston ring seals against the bore and move from there. Remember how costly it is when you start  redlining your engine too frequently!
